As our Artistic Director and Founder, Melissa is the visionary behind everything we do here. Her journey in hair began right here in Kalamunda, where she completed her apprenticeship before spending a few years honing her craft in New South Wales. But the call of home was strong, and she eventually returned to the Hills to plant her own roots.

A Style A Head was born in 2009. What started as a private, quiet sanctuary designed to balance a growing family and a passion for hair quickly blossomed. Friends and family loved the "away from the hustle" vibe so much that word spread, and soon, clients were traveling from all over Perth to sit in her chair.

Over the years, the salon has grown from strength to strength—moving through Lesmurdie, High Wycombe, and Maida Vale before finding its current home in Gooseberry Hill. Today, Melissa leads a boutique experience that offers everything from precision cutting and creative coloring to elegant bridal styling.

Having been in the industry since 1997, Melissa has seen it all. She feels incredibly privileged to have:

• Shared life milestones with her long-term clients.
• Mastered evolving techniques and stayed ahead of changing fashions.
• Grown the salon into a Sustainable Salon, proudly recycling over 95% of our waste.

For Melissa, it’s about more than just hair; it’s about the community, the environment, and the personal connections made over the decades. Whether you’ve been with her since the beginning or are walking through our doors for the first time, Melissa’s expertise and down-to-earth nature make every visit special.

Originally joining us as our receptionist, Emily has now stepped into the role of Front of House Manager, ensuring everything runs smoothly so you can focus entirely on your relaxation.

Emily is the friendly face who greets you at the door and the warm voice you’ll hear whenever you give the salon a call. She truly loves meeting new people and is dedicated to making sure every guest feels welcome and cared for from the moment they step inside.

With over 30 years of experience, Sarah is a true pillar of our team and a Master Stylist in every sense of the word. Her deep expertise means she’s a wizard with all aspects of hair, and she’s particularly skilled in the art of perming—a classic service that she handles with precision and care.

Sarah’s journey has been a vibrant one! Over the years, she and her husband have traveled extensively, raising three beautiful children along the way. While their adventures took them to many places—and involved quite a few home renovations—the family finally found their true home right here in Kalamunda.

Having been settled in our local community for around 18 years now, Sarah is a familiar face who truly loves where she lives. She couldn't imagine being anywhere else, and we feel just as lucky to have her incredible talent and warm spirit in the salon every day.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Bianca has returned to the salon! As one of our Master Stylists, Bianca brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and over 20 years of experience in the industry. Her expertise is a true gift to both our team and our lovely clients.

Originally from New Zealand, Bianca moved here with her family in 2024 and has been embracing the West Coast lifestyle ever since. When she’s not behind the chair creating hair magic, you’ll likely find her soaking up the sun at the beach or out exploring the beautiful local attractions that make our region so special.

We are so excited to introduce the newest addition to our team, Aimee! Joining us as a 1st Year Apprentice, Aimee has brought a burst of fresh energy and a truly bubbly personality that lights up the salon the moment she walks in.

Aimee is already a natural when it comes to the art of relaxation. She has quickly become an expert at our signature shampooing service and those much-loved complimentary head and shoulder massages. Using a blend of calming essential oils, she ensures that your time at the basin is the ultimate escape from the everyday.

What we love most about Aimee is her "can-do" spirit—she is always the first to jump in and help the rest of the team whenever needed, making sure everything runs smoothly for our clients. We’re so proud to watch her start her hairdressing journey here in Gooseberry Hill!
